Snapshots from our excursion to the Chabot Space & Science Center in Oakland, CA over the weekend:

Among the seven astronauts whose loss we mourn are brothers in Christ.
I heard the news of the tragic explosion of the Space Shuttle Columbia quite late on Saturday. I hadn’t listened to the radio nor watched TV all morning. As my family and I were driving to a children’s party, my wife nonchalantly told me that a space shuttle had blown up according to her brother. I quickly turned to her and shouted “What?!,” startling her out of her seat. I apologized and recounted to her how I still vividly remember when and where I was during the Challenger incident of 1986. For some reason I was at home and not in school on the morning of January 28, 1986 and I was watching the take-off of the Challenger on TV. I was utterly dumbfounded with the rest of the nation as, 73 seconds after lift-off, the Challenger exploded.
