Rainbow over Fremont
This rainbow came out this morning after rain poured all night long.

In Return of the King, as Gondor was seemingly on the verge of being overtaken by the armies of Mordor, Gandalf comforted Pippin with this description of heaven:

…the journey doesn’t end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain curtain of this world rolls back and all turns to silver glass. And then you see it… white shores, and beyond, the far green country under a swift sunrise.

Looking forward to a bright New Year. I wish you all the best.

Suriyothai carving
Stone carving of Queen Suriyothai in battle. Kinnaree Restaurant, Fremont, CA.

Armored elephants appear in battle in the movie Alexander, which starts today. In last year’s Return of the King, we saw charging oliphants trample men on Pelennor Fields. In the 2001 Thai epic film The Legend of Suriyothai, the Siamese army goes tusk to tusk against Burmese invaders.

What would be the next movie to feature battling behemoths? Could it be this?

Saw it this morning! It was most excellent! A worthy finale to the awesome trilogy.

I’m still grinning from ear to ear.

Hear Leonard Nimoy sing about Bilbo Baggins, not in a medieval sort-of-way as you’d expect but rather in ’60s go-go style. Quite jarring but danceable - if you’re Austin Powers!
