Raccoon Rescue

Saturday, March 13th, 2004

As we arrived at the local Starbucks, my three year old son and I witnessed an ongoing animal rescue effort. A raccoon apparently had climbed up a tree and got stuck up there.

Raccoon stuck up in a tree  Policewoman to the rescue

A policewoman borrowed ladders from nearby establishments, first from Starbucks but theirs was too short. She got a taller one from Autozone.

A crowd immediately gathered around the tree. One manong came up to me and asked me what creature was up there. I told him it was a raccoon. The rescue effort took about 15 minutes in all. People applauded when it was over.

I’d like to subtitle this “Hazard of a pole living in the city.”

len wiseman

I’m three degrees separated from Kate Beckinsale! You see that guy above? He is Ms. Beckinsale’s fiancé and Underworld director Len Wiseman, circa 1991. He and my sister-in-law went to high school together at American High in Fremont. The picture is from their yearbook. His caption reads, “That school has nothing to do w/ my career. Cya at the movies.”

(Ellen over here goes even further back with him)

Siamese Feast

Sunday, November 16th, 2003

This evening the fam and I ate at Sala Thai, our favorite Thai restaurant in the Tri-City area. We’ve become suki* here and have come to know the family who runs this resto. What mainly makes this place such a draw for us is the fact that our picky kids actually like the food here. In fact, each of us has our own favorite dish to come back to. The six-year old likes to order the noodle dish, pad thai, and often shares with his younger brother an order of skewered chicken satay, which happens to be the three-year old’s favorite. The wife often craves for sticky rice with mangoes for dessert, while I believe their tangy soup, tom kha, is to die for.

tom kha
The baby was content in being mesmerized by the steam rising from the clay pot full of tom kha.

rice server
It would be cool to have this rice server at home. I wonder if Pier 1 Imports sells them.

Jesus - His peace for all people

No, this is not an early Christmas display but rather a permanent mural on the side of the new Prince of Peace Lutheran Church building in Fremont, CA.
