Our Trip So Far: Wowowee!
My wife has seen Wowowee only once before. It is a game show wherein balikbayans are tapped as sponsors for the prize giveaways. As Willie, the host, asks the balikbayans from the audience for their names and where they’re from, the returning expatriates hand over their dollar bills to him. The collected money is then awarded to the studio contestants, who are mostly needy folk. My wife expressed the desire to appear on the show when we visit the Philippines.
In order for balikbayans to appear as audience members, however, one needs to be a TFC subscriber, which we aren’t. But it just so happens that my tito knows someone in the upper echelons of ABS-CBN. Talks began and before we knew it, we were scheduled to appear on Wowowee in a matter of days. June 30 was the day that was reserved for us. Knowing the nature of the show, where the camera is right up in your face and no audience member is spared, I backed out (I’m just camera-shy like that). My father-in-law, who was also visiting the Philippines, took my place. I stayed home with the two-year old (who would have been running around the studio anyway).

Looks like something my husband would want to do (and I would stay home too)! He waches TFC everyday. Do you know if it has already aired here? I’m not sure if it’s telecast live so maybe I’ll just watch out for the episode with your family in it.

Hi Marie, it has already aired in the States. Same day, I believe. I didn’t have access to the internet during that time to announce it here. Many people we know missed it too.

Wow (wowee), you missed a photo-op with Iya (one of the female hostesses). I’ve spent five days in Manila just ogling at her “Bench” billboards and posters

I asked my wife about that and she says Iya and Kat were on the other side of the stage during the picture-taking portion of the show.
Luis, you’re even better than I thought. You had time to ogle while driving on Manila streets??

Hi - After months of not checking your blog, I’m surprised to find out you guys are (were) in Manila. Haha about Wowowee…of the 3 of us, he’s the biggest TFC fan and absolutely loves Wowowee!!! I don’t even know why we subscribed to TFC, but seeing Jake enjoy the show and pick up Tagalog words, it’s all worth it after all. Can’t wait to see you guys and hear the stories! Welcome (home) back!

I’m glad I found your blog, my Cebuana wife and I have had ABS-CBN for only a couple of weeks and here in Sydney, Australia, Wowowee is on from 0515 to 0615 in the morning and I could not understand why so many Americans appeared on the show…I thought it was shot in LA. Your explanation now clarifies the situation for me and I will have to go home tonight, cap in hand, and apologise to my Gwapa Manyeka for my error.

I was wondering if and where I could find the lyrics to the Wowowee theme song? So, I can learn it and drive my wife and her family crazy with that song:). I am learning tagalog. I thought that you might know where or what site it might be on. Thanks for your time. I really like the Wowowee show.

Hi!
I was in Wowowee at manila this week… i’m now in Germany… i’m half-german and half-filipino…. it was very interesting to see how the show is created…. the opening song is so funny….^^
you don’t need to be any member in order to attend the show… we just arrived 1 hour before the show started life and about 30 seats were still free… so we could attend…. you only had to pay 120 pesos(around 1,80 Euro)…

hello I have not been a constant follower of wowowee I must admit that I have been more in the other channel but I used to liked abs cbn b4 but just whan I discovered channel 7 and found out that there shows are more w/in the limits I mean morally uplifting… When I watched the show wowowee it is not that Im anti abs cbn I just feel that they are not boosting the moral of our fellowmen and to think they are airing it internationally and made me think what king of image they are leaving for us.. Anyways I feel it isnt bad to be of help to the needy but still I bliv that we can think of another way where we can give dignity to the filipino people.

oh my goodness! i love that show! it was the best im the world! when i stayed in the Philippines, that’s all i watched! you are so lucky you were able to go on that show. I had a chance but the day we were to go was the day before we were leaving so we had to get ready. anyways, i’m glad you enjoyed your trip! God bless!
