You know you’re in the Philippines when you wake up to the shrill crows of roosters, the rumble of tricycles passing by, and the sound of someone sweeping with a walis ting-ting.

There’s something about the sound of walis ting-ting sweeping up a wet sidewalk.
Enjoy! Eat a ton of mangoes if you can still get them.

and you know you are in the Philippines when you hear the shrill “Pottt! potttt!” from a bike of the man selling pan de sal or people trailing towards the bakery to buy pan de sal.
you know also you are in the Philippines when the men, known as siga (the ones in Tondo) gather to drink Ginebra San Miguel, likewise known as gin, for breakfast!

Sayang! I hope your having a great time! I am going to the Philippines in August and will stay there for close to three weeks.
Anyway, don’t forget to go to Densio’s and try the sizzling sisig - if you know what that is.
Take care.

boy, I’ve haven’t had time to respond to the comments here. the times I actually get to go on the internet I just check my e-mail then quickly logoff. Internet time here in P.I. is metered, yo!
Phisch: so true. as for the mangoes, I’ve had a few already.
Mark: thanks. i made putting up the new masthead a must before i left for the Phils.
Ariel: my home base is in Las Piñas; let’s try to meet sometime.
Bing: those are good “Onli-in-da-Pilipin”-isms; i have a few more i’d like to post later.
Marco: sayang nga! we will miss each other by mere weeks! i saw densio’s somewhere. i’ll definitely check it out.

how about the yell of ‘dyaryo bakal bote’ as an ‘alarm clock’ and remind you to clean out your tool shed?
July 5th, 2005 at 5:12 pm
Sooo… where are the Onli-in-da-Pilipin-isms? How’s your stay so far?
There are Dencio’s branches in Glorietta 4 Food Choices, some place near Alabang Town Center, somewhere in the Tomas Morato area near ABS-CBN…

Hindi pa tayo nagkasabay, dbd — do you have a recorder of some sort? That’s what I should have done — recorded those sounds, uploaded them as an mp3 file…

Oo nga, Wily. We missed each other too.
That’s a good idea. I’ll use my ibook’s built-in mike na lang.

By chance, does the “Ariel” who posted a comment recently happen to be Ariel Dumlao of Las Pinas?

Michelle, sorry he’s not the same Ariel.
