Switchfoot
Maybe redemption has stories to tell
Maybe forgiveness is right where you fell
Where can you run to escape from yourself?
Where you gonna go?
Where you gonna go?
Salvation is here
Those are lyrics from Dare You to Move by Christian crossover band Switchfoot. The song’s music videos are in heavy rotation on MTV and VH1. I say “music videos” because there are two versions of the video out there. The first one, which came out earlier this year, basically shows a young man “going against the grain” by running through an alley and avoiding a swarm of people going the opposite way. The second one, which can be viewed here, is about a young surfer who is being resuscitated on a beach (in San Diego no doubt - the band is from there). It shows a series of flashbacks going back to the young man’s childhood where he has had to “rise” from adversity in the literal and figurative sense.
Switchfoot’s guitarist/keyboardist, Jerome Fontamillas, talks about the band, surfing, and his supportive Filipino parents here.

I love Switchfoot! My BIL got us their debut album but my favorite was the one that came after, New Way to be Human. I guess Fontamillas is a new member because I thought they were a 3-man band. Guess I’ve not kept up with them!

Fontamillas is a new member. He joined the band in 2000.
Doesn’t the lead singer look like a cross between David Spade and Dana Carvey but more serious looking than both and less whiney?

Some friends of mine went to watch them at the Pound about a year ago and said the show totally rocked.
Slightly off-topic, but speaking of Christian bands in mainstream, Jars of Clay’s “Show You Love” has been playing in the trailer for the upcoming Adam Sandler flick “Spanglish”.

hey!whats happening?yeah,i LOVE Switchfoot!!!!!as a matter of fact,i got to meet
the guys after a concert in Austin.they were all so nice and wanting to really get
involved in talking with their fans.Unlike some bands, that dosen’t really care
about their fans,Switchfoot is the kind of band that you can just hang out with anytime.
They are so down-to-earth and open.
Have yall seen Switchfootage? If you haven’t,i reaaally think you should
go out and get it!It is verrry funny and it gives you another look at what Switchfoot
is,…what they’re like,if you will.I got a real kick out of the skateboarding scene
in Switchfootage. And yes, there IS surfing. There is a funny part on the beach where
Jon and Tim are walking up the shore, and Jon starts running, and trips! It is very
hilarious.
Well…thanks for your time in reading this…if ya wanna hear more about me meeting
them,just email me at cvchick90@yahoo.com

Jacob’s Well was in concert with Switchfoot a few years ago at a place called the WRECK in Kendallville, IN. I would like to get back in touch with these guys. “JW” is about to sign with Warner Bros hopefully in the spring of 2005! I would like to touch base with Switchfoot to see if there is anything they can suggest we look out for or ask about.
Is there anyone out there who can assist Jacob’s Well with an email address to contact these guys?
