		<description>they actually changed the panatang makabayan already. this was back when i was in grade school, i think. it's now called "panunumpa ng katapatan sa watawat," and it goes:

ako ay pilipino
buong katapatang nanunumpa
sa watawat ng pilipinas
at sa bansang kanyang sinasagisag
na may dangal, katarungan, at kalayaan
na pinakikilos ng sambayanang makaDiyos, makakalikasan, makatao at makabansa.

&lt;a href="http://www.lawphil.net/executive/execord/eo1996/eo_343_1996.html"&gt;http://www.lawphil.net/executive/execord/eo1996/eo_343_1996.html&lt;/a&gt;

i think when raul roco became secretary of education in 2001, he changed this again. i'm not sure though which pledge they're now using in schools, as we no longer have flag ceremonies in the university.</description>

		<description>That's fascinating, Nate. I would've appreciated the shorter version back in elementary.

The flag ceremonies, I remember those. Everyone, as in from grade school to high school, had to assemble in front of the flag, forming lines in the quadrangle as we sang the Philippine National Anthem, recited the Panatang Makabayan, and sang the school hymn. This happened *every* morning!
