Around the Blogroll in 80 Seconds

Tuesday, June 29th, 2004

Updates to the blogroll:

Cousin Marco has abandoned his old blog in favor of a new prison, er, home… Via Nate’s site, I find out yet another cousin has a blog: Stef is one spunky girl who’s a sophomore in high school, I believe… Nomad blogger Willie Galang has moved again. His new domain is called Blog Manila… Added Roland Tanglao’s site to the blogroll. He’s a Pinoy-Canuck who’s a certified über-geek… Just discovered conservative Pinay journalist Michelle Malkin’s blog. Check it out…

There’s a New Geek in Town

geek squad

Geek Squad. That’s Best Buy’s new tech support department. I was there about a month ago having my digital camera replaced on warranty because of a lens defect. Genius Bar rip-off, I immediately thought. The image they’re trying to project as shown here is that of hip, Men in Black-like, computer repair geeks. Hmmm, wasn’t this already done by Laporte in the opening segment of The Screen Savers? Well, according to this, the Geek Squad has been around for about 10 years until they were bought by Best Buy. They even one-up the Genius Bar by doing house calls. Apple, are you listening? On second thought, scratch that. I’m afraid I’d get unsolicited critiques of my design sensibilities from Apple employees visiting my home.

theater marquee by Afghans thanking Bush

I thought I’d post this photo of a theater marquee message that’s been up for a few weeks now at Little Kabul in Fremont.* Fremont is home to the largest Afghan community in the U.S.

*and no, the sign wasn’t created here.

Grad and Dad Weekend

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2004

Some pictures from the weekend:

Grad Cake
It was my sis’s grad party in Vallejo. She got her Masters in Developmental Psychology.

A friend of hers was kind enough to offer her home for the celebration. Shown here is a jazz band that provided the music for the evening.

My dad’s side of the family from all throughout the Bay Area got together for Father’s Day.

ChurchQuest

Friday, June 18th, 2004

Peep this clever, albeit confusing, ‘under construction’ page for a church website. And yes, it does seem they have permission to use the familiar interface.
