Valentine’s

Monday, February 17th, 2003

I actually copied and pasted this poem courtesy of clickmomukhamo*, printed it and gave it to my wife for Valentine’s. Um, the flowers then followed.

Couples from church had a post-Valentine’s Dinner Date last night at Nijo Castle in Newark, CA. Afterwards, we all met in church for a little program interspersed with a few “Dating Game”-style games. Judging from the several missed guesses as to what one’s spouse’s general preferences are and whose spouse is whose based on questions asked, Pastor Alois offered his calling card just in case any couple needed marital counselling. Heh.

*Update: Apparently, clickmomukhamo is on hiatus so the poem is not available at the moment. The particular entry’s permalink did not archive the poem either. But trust me, it was hilarious and endearing at the same time.

Pulp Friction

Thursday, February 13th, 2003

Have you leafed through design magazines such as HOW, ID or Graphic Design USA lately? Within these rags are pages of varying weights ranging from textured card stock to high-gloss metallic paper. I consider them the papyral (is that a word?) equivalent of pop-up ads. They make it impossible to get to the “meat” of the magazine. As you flip through pages, you end up staring at the latest specialty paper touted by XYZ Paper Company. Like pop-up ads, they’re a necessary evil that pays the bills.

Eyewire.com

Eyewire.com ceases operations effective February 28, 2003 according to an e-mail I received from Getty Images. No wonder I stopped receiving their catalog in the mail. I’ve bought clip art from Eyewire a couple of times before.

Search Engine Ranking

Sunday, February 9th, 2003

Checking my web log file, I noticed that most of my traffic come from search engine queries. This in itself is not surprising. The fact that I get top ranking in some of these queries is. Using the following keywords gets my site top ranking in Google:

letterheads portfolio
invites flyers

top 5 ranking:
print portfolio page layout
letterhead & logos
portfolio print ads
portfolio flyers
portfolio letterheads
logos for letterheads
anniversary flyers

top 10 ranking: letterheads and logos, brochure portfolio, newspaper print ads, long distance banners, direct mail piece.

Now here’s the rub: I haven’t done anything special to my site. I have adequately formulated meta tag information, but that’s about it. Could it be that my portfolio site is so hopelessly stale that search engine bots just looove indexing my site?
